Are you supported in your scrapbooking hobby?

This was a thread on the SIStv site. It really drew my interest:

It seems my family and I mean my mom, grandma, dh, etc, etc, etc, just doesn't get why I do what I do. Why I am on a dt, why I like to have certain scrapbooking items, why I host challenges, crops and the like. Why I like to go on scrapbooking boards etc. Why I send goodies to others, etc...
Trying to be positive, but there is no way I can express how much I love my art, what I do. They just don't understand and to them I must look silly.
I tried to explain to my grandmother today, "Well you like golfing, and I don't understand that"... and that we all have things we enjoy in life.
Do you ever feel you are being judged, or that scrapbooking isn't really a good hobby...etc, etc, etc...
It gets annoying, and makes me just want to put a sign on my door, "Here, but leave me alone, rolling around naked in my scrapbooking supplies and the sort", lol...
Anyone else know this feeling?
Thank goodness for this board, where all of us enjoy what we do and can totally understand why we do create.
*Kellie

I know my husband appreciates the fact I enjoy something, but is not at all interested in it. For instance, I come home from a crop or something, my daughters like to see what I've made. He just is happy I had fun. This weekend he picked up one of my old snowflake punches (there's like 8 of them total) and said, "how much does one of these cost?" I told him it was old and probably about $8-10 per each punch. He looked around the room and said, "you've got a lot of stuff in here, probably cost a fortune. I don't want to know." So it's not that he minds that I have a lot, or anything, but rather he is happy I like it. Problem is, there are times when scrapping interferes with his agenda. Like when he comes home and laundry isn't going or I haven't started dinner yet and he's hungry. He gets under my skin, asks me, "how long are you gonna be?" and "are we eating tonight?" I know it's sounds brutal, but it's the facts. If he is in a bad mood or had a tough day, it's hard. But when things go smooth, he's fine.

I replied by posting:
Wow, I feel your pain. It's usually the combination of his day at work and my guilt in taking a break to relax. Other times he is happy I like what I'm doing, but he's not really interested in seeing it. So I have to just be happy with what I create. I've been published in magazines, and written how to articles, and he liked to brag about that, but it was the fact I was commissioned to do an article and it usually included photos of family. If I showed him the same thing in person instead of in the magazine, he would not have been nearly as interested.

So how about you? Are you supported, do they get involved or do they understand?

Love my Mac, except...

It doesn't let me include links and bold and italic, bummer for my posts! Luckily I have a PC nearby!

Flair Hair

My brother Bill came into my office while I was on the phone. I started cracking up! Lucky for me I was talking to Debbi and not on a business call!!! Here's what he looked like:

Funny thing is, this isn't a joke, (though it should be!) They actually have a website where they sell these things! Too friggin funny. Want more info, (come on, you know you want one for that special someone!) Check out their website:

Three things...

This challenge is from BonnieRose (http://www.alifeunrehearsed.blogspot.com)

"List 3 things you're really good at... blog about them."

1. I love to be creative, I'm not necessarily the best scrapper, or photographer, but I love the create process and I think when I'm in the zone, it's good. I am really tough on myself, so lot's of people compliment the creative arts I do, but I have such high expectations of myself. I know I'm good, and that's what I expect from myself. Less than that is a little disappointing.

2. Helping people. I think I have a knack to help people, to listen, offer advice, but usually steer them in the direction to find their own answers. I very sociable, and very approachable. At work, people come to me because I'm not intimidating, and I don't make people feel dumb when they ask questions about things they probably should know. Better to ask when you don't know the answer or aren't sure your answer is right, then to not do something you're supposed to, or do it wrong.

3. Procrastinating! I am a pro! I can tell you everything you want to know about it. But I'll do that later, I still have time...

Top Ten Things This Very Minute...

Make a list of your top ten things on your mind right now. At the time you blog. Date it.... mark down the time.. and just number 1-10 and write the first 10 things that come to mind.. no censoring.. this would make one great layout.. a moment in time!

7-29-07 11:20pm (Sunday)

1. Wow, it's almost 11:30, what am I doing blogging when I should go to bed?
2. My scrap room is coming along, almost done with the big stuff, then I really need to get onto the little stuff, don't keep it if you know you're not gonna use it.
3. How the hell am I gonna get through all that patterned paper? I need to throw some in the garage sale pile, I can always buy more ;-)
4. My back is killing me, stupid advil didn't work.
5. I wonder if I can get the stains out of the carpet? Should I try? Should I buy a throw rug? Should I pull it up? NO! I just relocated everything but the table. Are you crazy?!?
6. I wonder if I should get up and fold the pants that are dry in the dryer? It's still going, it will be fine for a little longer, (electricity waster!)
7. I want dessert, not really, but I would like it. I would like it better if I keep losing weight, don't eat anything, it's way too late.
8. I wonder if I should go to bed?
9. I should fill the dog's water bowls. And move their little basket in my scrap room and get rid of the white box they all seem to like.
10. Drink more liquids! DRINK DRINK DRINK

Wow, its 11:31, and I'm going to check out SIS, amd I dumb, or what?

The Human Body

The human body is a machine that is full of wonder.

This collection of human body facts will leave you wondering why in
the world we were designed the way we were.

Scientists say the higher your I.Q. the more you dream.

The largest cell in the human body is the female egg and the smallest
is the male sperm.

You use 200 muscles to take one step.

The average woman is 5 inches shorter than the average man.

Your big toes have two bones each while the rest have three.

A pair of human feet contain 250,000 sweat glands.

A full bladder is roughly the size of a soft ball.

The acid in your stomach is strong enough to dissolve razor blades.

The human brain cell can hold 5 times as much information as the
Encyclopedia Britannica.

It takes the food seven seconds to get from your mouth to your stomach.

The average human dream lasts 2-3 seconds

Men without hair on their chests are more likely to get cirrhosis of
the liver than men with hair.

At the moment of conception, you spent about half an hour as a single cell.

There is about one trillion bacteria on each of your feet.

Your body gives off enough heat in 30 minutes to bring half a gallon
of water to a boil.

The enamel in your teeth is the hardest substance in your body.

Your teeth start growing 6 months before you are born.

When you are looking at someone you love, your pupils dilate, they do
the same when you are looking at someone you hate.

Blondes have more hair than dark-haired people.

Your thumb is the same length of your nose.

(Now I KNOW you are placing your thumb on your NOSE, aren't you?

I DID AND IT IS...)

Your foot is as long at your arm from your wrist to your elbow.

(Not as easy as the nose, is it?)

Doing the happy dance!

Woo Hoo! I've been on a diet for 3 weeks now. I take a pill 30-60 minutes before meals, 3 times a day. Guess what? I've lost 14 pounds already, so very exciting! You too can try to lose weight, it's been really easy for me, which also helps. My husband has joined me this week, so I'll update next week for his first weigh in! Diane from the Scrappery started today too, so we'll see where she ends up next week. This is so exciting to have others join me and we share in each others triumphs!

The view

Paris Hilton glasses! Not mine, my daughters! Too funny! I'm not the bug eyed type!

The Guardian

Quoted from the movie, the Guardian:

Regarding the line - "When did we get old?"

"I don't mind. If my muscles ache it's cause I've used them. It's hard for me to walk up them steps cause I have every night to lay next to the man that loved me. I got a few wrinkles here and there but I've layed under thousands of skies on sunny days. I look and feel this way cause I drank and I smoked, I lived and I loved, dance, sang my way through a pretty damned good life if you ask me.

Getting old ain't bad. Getting old, that's earned."

I like this perspective on getting old. It's so true, we earn the right to get old from all the broken hearts and scars, from all the relationships we love and friends we're shared a piece of ourselves with. It's all those things, all the good things we've enjoyed, all the bad things we're endured, that's makes us who we are and that's where we get the grey hairs and the laugh lines!

Visualization

Sometimes it's hard to visualize numbers, especially big numbers. How much is a million? How do we grasp that number visually? A former student at Analy High School has done just that, created something to visually grasp the numbers. I wish I could go to see them in person. This internet link is pretty intense on it's own!

The dentist says...

I went to the dentist on Tuesday. Haven't been for a while. Well, it's been a pretty long time. My kids go, my husband goes and has had a lot of work. Me? I have great teeth. Well, they aren't as great as they once were. My molar started bugging me, but only a little. You know, on a scale of pain from 1 - 10, it was 1/2. I decided to STOP PROCRASTINATING and go it. I mean, it's been 10 years. Yep, time flies when you don't want to see the dentist. So we took X-rays, and unfortunately, I waited too long. I have to have a root canal. A cavity in my molar got out of hand and took over the molar. Fortunately it's not too far gone to where it needs to be pulled. Or at least not until he starts drilling.

So, besides that, I have one little cavity in anoter molar, and I have to have a root cleaning on all my teeth. Grand total? $3750.00. (Divide that by 10 years and it's $375.00 a year) It would've been less expensive and less painful to see the dentist ever year. I am so dumb!

On a better note, I started a diet (Pound Melters) on July 4th, I weighed in today and I've lost 10 pounds! I'm really happy an excited about this! I have set my mind to lose the weight. It's working so far. And with the root canal tomorrow, I won't be eating much anyway, so that'll help too. I guess that's a positive in a very negative situation.

I know I brought this on myself, and hopefully I am learning a lesson from it. Get my life and my body back together, after all, I am 42, not even halfway done yet! I guess I need to schedule my pap and mammogram too! Might as well have a really fun time over the next month or so!

Wish me luck, I such a wuss when it comes to the dentist! Taking my ipod and zoning into the movie Medicine Man. I've seen it like 100 times and pretty much know it by heart, so I won't need the video part. It will hopefully keep me company!

Guess what I got!!!!!!!!!

Debbi has a bad memory about birthdays, and I'm glad! She probably would have gotten me something else, but since she had no time, she got me what I really wanted!

This is her very first ugly doll, made with her very own hands! I just love it! It's like I get a really special piece of her! Sweet! I look at it and see her, the red, the sassy-ness, the fun! Love it!

Sonoma County Hot Air Balloon Classic 2007

My daughter Casey and I stayed the night before in my parents motorhome at Keiser Park in Windsor. We woke up at 4:30 am to see the hot air balloons!

It was not the best day as far as weather, we had a 100 foot ceiling of visability, (translates to: the balloons can't lift off)

I went outside anyway to get some shots of the morning.

Check out the flame in the morning, I was fooling around with settings on the camera to get different shots.

I have always liked photos taken of the inside of balloons, I especially like this bright colored balloon.

Here is a pretty good shot of the "Dawn Patrol". It was lighter outside than previous years, but that was due to weather conditions.

Check out this vantage point. The motor home was parked 20 feet from the field, only a small road was in front of us. So from the warmth of the motor home we could watch the balloons.

These photos are taken from within the basket of the balloon on Casey and I's teathered flight!

Check out my car! This is my parents motor home we stayed in!

My Dad on the ground...

My Mom taking photos...

I had a great day!

Hot Ait Balloon Ride

During the Sonoma County Hot Air Balloon Classic, Casey and I got to go on a teathered balloon ride. I've never done it before, and now I think I'd like to go for the real thing! It was so much fun!

Love my daughters wall!

I don't know how she thought of it, but it is so creative!

We've since repainted her room, so the peace sign is down, hopefully she'll put it back up, or do something even more creative!

What drink am I?

You Are a Mai Tai

You aren't a big drinker, but you'll drink if the atmosphere is festive.
And when you're drunk, watch out! You're easily carried away.

Good News and Bad News

The good news is, the upstairs hard wood floors have been completed. There is still a little bit of floor molding to cut and place, but the floors are done! So in the next couple of days the kids rooms will be painted, furniture in place, and my house won't look like a tornado blew in.

The bad news, we were almost done, only a half dozen boards to go, and then WHAM! I smashed the poop out of my finger. I would've een happier to hit it square, cause it wouldn't hurt so much. Nope, I caught the hammer on the edge of my left index finger, enough to crack the ede of the nail, hamburger the edge of skin, and bleed. Owwie! It throbs! I keep it above my heart.
It still throbs. I keep thinking of Debbi on the zip line jamming her finger. Owwie! At least it's not my right hand (Since
I'm right handed). I can type one handed, I can use a pen, but it's just ALOT distracting to feel it throb! Feel sorry for me, I would say bring me StarBucks, but I'm trying to watch my calories. Poop!

BTW, I didn't yell one profanity, I kept saying "poop". My daughter said I could say "shit", but it hurt too much!

Spanish Class

Do you ever realize that you've just taken on too much. You know, the moment strikes you to do something that you've wanted to do, and you go for it. All the while trying to do so many other things at the same time. Then you feel overwhelmed, can't seem to schedule time to do everything. And when you do schedule time, it takes much longer than you planned to complete the tasks. This is my life. I am such a go-getter. I want it all, I want to do it all, and I can't. Wow, did I actually say that? I have a busy life to begin with, three kids, a husband, four dogs, a cat, a house under remodel for the 4th week straight, a new desire to create, wanting to spend time with friends, trying to diet, get more pictures, purge scrapbook supplies, throw out old clothes that are just taking up space, read more and watch tv less, walk the dogs, make more home-made-sit-at-the-dinner-table meals, plan a vacation with my husband, and on and on.

So somewhere in there, I was gonna put a 2 night a week, 3 hour long spanish class with studying about another 4-6 hours a week and homework. Yea right, I think I want to learn to speak spanish. I think I want other things a lot more.

Dropped out of spanish, feel a huge amount of relief. Now, if I can NOT add another project and just finish the above, that would be doing something!

More scrapbook pages

I went to the Scrappery last night for the Saturday night crop. We had a great time, I was there for about 6 hours and got 4 layouts done. That's a good total for me. I sat next to Michael, he was fun! I miss having him around! Debbi was there, she was having great fun with Sylvia, who kept making Debbi laugh! Annette showed up, thanks for the chipboard! Tina was there, she was sewing on her page, it turned out incredible! Linda B was there but left early (and I got there late), Deb R was there, chit chatting away, but scrappin! Joy was there, she is always fun to have around. Marcia was there, she gets to go see David in the UK! *jealous* I should've taken pictures of everyone! I hope I didn't forget anyone, I hate when that happens.

One more thing, Michael and I discovered hardwood floors and chairs with wheels, too much fun!

I'm liking Nikkis lense

I'm thinking of getting the 50mm for myself for my birthday! I already got a MacBook and 2007 Toyota Camry Hybrid from hubby! I still live my computer and love my car! I think I made the right choices with both of them!

What finger am I?

Challenge from Debbi (Young Originals)

You Are a Pinky

You are fiercely independent, and possibly downright weird.
A great communicator, you can get along with almost anyone.
You are kind and sympathetic. You support all your friends - and love them for who they are.

You get along well with: The Ring Finger

Stay away from: The Thumb

A fav picture

I took this at Cabo Wabo in Cabo San Lucas Mexico. I just love the way it looks.

Loved vacation!

What to write? Pretty much nothing, I think the pictures say enough!
